It was founded in 1988 and has been a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Group since 1997. Royal Caribbean Group currently operates Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises, and also holds a 50% joint venture interest in TUI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises through the TUI Cruises JV. The company previously owned Azamara before selling the brand to Sycamore Partners in 2021. Celebrity operates a fleet of ocean cruise ships on itineraries to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia, and the Galapagos Islands, and has also launched Celebrity River Cruises, a river cruise division scheduled to begin sailing European rivers in 2027. The brand is positioned in the premium segment of the cruise industry, between mass-market and luxury cruise lines.
