What you need to know about PayPal

PayPal transactions are often synonymous with scams. We nearly got caught by one. Recent problems include warranty disputes, wrong items delivered, and refusals to reverse unauthorized charges. In one case a customer's refund went missing during a PayPal-to-Chase transfer — we worked on it, and PayPal refunded the charge. The PayPal Protection plan didn't protect another customer. And PayPal refused to return money to a customer who'd already returned her purchase.

PayPal customer service policies

PayPal's privacy policy describes how it collects and uses personal data — including name, contact details, device information, payment history, and location data — when you use its services. Data is used to process transactions, detect fraud, personalise your experience, and comply with legal and regulatory requirements. It may be shared with PayPal affiliates, financial institutions, and third-party service providers. You can manage your data rights and marketing preferences through your account settings. Residents of California and certain other states have additional rights to access, correct, or delete their personal data.

PayPal loyalty program

PayPal doesn't have a traditional loyalty program. The PayPal Rewards program lets eligible PayPal account holders earn cash back on purchases made through PayPal at participating retailers. Rewards vary by offer and retailer and are credited directly to your PayPal balance. Holders of the PayPal Cashback Mastercard earn 3% cash back on PayPal purchases and 1.5% everywhere else.
