The cooling off period typically applies when you havenot utilized any AAA services during that time.

What do I need to do if I have a complaint regarding a refund?
For complaints regarding refunds, you can email memberrelations@national.aaa.com. The service level agreement (SLA) for complaints is typically 24 to 48 hours. Refund or claim payments usually take 7 to 14 business days from the date all necessary documents are obtained.
Why is my AAA roadside wait time so long, and what can I do?
AAA dispatches most roadside calls to local third-party tow operators, so wait times depend on how many trucks are available in your area. Quoted ETAs of 30 to 90 minutes routinely stretch past 2 to 12 hours during winter storms, holiday weekends and major events. If you are in an unsafe location, tell the dispatcher — that escalates the call. If wait times exceed your ETA by more than an hour, you can hire an independent tow and request reimbursement from your regional club within the towing limits of your plan.
How do I stop AAA from auto-renewing my membership?
Sign in to your account at aaa.com, open Membership → Manage → Automatic Renewal, and toggle it off. You can also call (800) 922-8228. Most regional clubs lock changes once you are within 45 days of the renewal date, so act early. If you have already been charged, most clubs will refund auto-renewal payments within 30 days if no roadside service was used.
Which AAA club am I a member of, and why does it matter?
AAA is a federation of regional motor clubs (AAA Northeast, AAA-The Auto Club Group, AAA Club Alliance, AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah, AAA Texas, AAA SoCal, AAA Mountain West, and others). Your billing ZIP code determines your club. Pricing, refund rules, roadside call limits and the staff who handle your complaints are all set by your home club — the AAA national office in Heathrow, Florida cannot override club decisions. Your member number and the back of your card identify your club.
Was my information exposed in a 2026 AAA data breach?
Two AAA-affiliated entities disclosed data breaches in March 2026: the Automobile Club of Southern California reported a breach on March 9, 2026 involving its driver-education vendor (DanubeNet / Driving School Solutions), and AAA Driver Training School (affiliated with AAA Northeast) disclosed a related incident on March 5, 2026. Exposed data may include names, addresses and driver-training records. AAA mails individual notification letters; if you received one, follow the credit-monitoring instructions in the letter and consider placing a fraud alert on your credit file.
What is AAA's roadside assistance waiting period for new members?
AAA imposes a 48-hour waiting period before Emergency Roadside Service is available to new members and newly added associate drivers. If you need service immediately, AAA can waive the waiting period for a $75 fee, which may be waived in safety-critical situations. Upgrades to Plus or Premier carry an additional 7 to 10-day waiting period before the enhanced towing benefits become active; classic-level benefits apply during that window.
Can AAA cancel my membership without explanation?
Yes. AAA Club Alliance’s published membership policy reserves the right to cancel a membership for what it calls ‘abusive use’ of roadside services or for using more service than the average member over a sustained period; offending members may be downgraded at renewal or non-renewed. Other regional clubs publish similar terms. If your membership is cancelled and the explanation is unclear, ask in writing for the specific reason and the policy section relied on, and escalate to the AAA national member-relations team if your regional club will not provide one.
How do I escalate a AAA complaint above my regional club?
Start with your regional club’s member-relations team (look up the address on the back of your card). If that fails, write to AAA Inc. National Office, 1000 AAA Drive, Heathrow, FL 32746, and copy memberrelations@national.aaa.com. You can also file with the Better Business Bureau against your regional club, and — for insurance disputes — with your state insurance department. Refund and billing disputes can be challenged with your credit-card issuer if AAA does not respond within 30 days.
Will AAA reimburse me if I had to call a tow truck because AAA never showed up?
Most regional clubs will reimburse out-of-pocket towing costs up to the limits of your membership plan if AAA confirms it could not provide service. Save your dispatch case number, the time of your original call, and the receipt from the third-party tow operator, and submit them through your regional club’s reimbursement form or by emailing memberrelations@national.aaa.com. Reimbursement decisions typically take 7 to 14 business days after AAA receives documentation.
