What you need to know about Zelle
Zelle generally does not respond to customer service queries. It passes most complaints along to its bank owners. Here’s my guide on how the Zelle dispute process works. We get many cases about money being sent to the wrong person. The latest swindle is the Zelle callback scam.
How to resolve a problem with Zelle
Zelle’s banks are also generally unhelpful. You’ll need to apply pressure to the executive contacts. Please see our guide on how to get your money back from a Zelle scam or accidental money transfer.
Note: If you’re having customer service trouble, please use our proven methods for fixing any consumer problem before contacting a manager.

How can I contact Zelle customer service?

Does Zelle offer purchase protection?
No. However, Zelle has started to require banks to mark transactions as risky. For instance, a bank will flag a transaction if a customer tries to send money to an account that hasn’t been used on Zelle before.
How can I get a refund from Zelle?
To request a refund from Zelle, follow these steps:
- Contact your bank or credit union: Call your bank’s customer service. If you’re using Zelle through your bank, report the transaction. You can usually find the contact number on the back of your debit card.
- File a claim with Zelle and your bank: If you sent money to someone who tricked you, file a claim with Zelle and your bank. Zelle refunds charges, but each case is reviewed individually—call (844) 428-8542 or email [email protected].
- Provide documentation: Gather any documents that support your claim.
- Follow your bank’s instructions: Your bank will give you specific steps.
- Be patient: Refund requests can take time, so stay patient.
You can’t cancel a payment once sent if the recipient uses Zelle. However, some banks are starting to reverse transfers for scammed customers.
