As you can probably tell, this isn’t your average fundraiser.
I began by telling people not to give to this site, but instead to consider several other worthy causes.
I also broke a grammar rule, for those of you who clicked on that last post. I know, it’s “whom” do you support, no “who.” I went with the colloquial, but grammatically incorrect phrasing.
The red lights of the grammar police are in my rearview mirror. Gotta go!
But seriously, this fundraiser is different. It’s wildly ambitious. We need to raise $20,000. After two days, we’re at $1,200.
We rely on your donations to pay the bills — everything from running a server to web hosting, programming and editing. Simply put, we couldn’t do this advocacy without you.
We have a little help. Our friends at Allianz have today offered a selection of Frommer’s guidebooks autographed by my friend Pauline Frommer. And we still have a few Fodor’s guidebooks and Comuse Travel’s Time to Take a Map necklaces to give away. We’re giving them to random new underwriters.
What’s missing from all this? Well, you are.
If you’ve ever found a useful company contact on this site, or information that’s saved you money or helped you fix a consumer problem, now is the time to step up and support the work we do here. Getting involved now as an underwriter will ensure the survival of this site in 2016.
Your support will be gratefully acknowledged in our 2015 underwriters hall of fame.
Thank you for making a difference!
