There’s no shortage of sites that publish interesting stories, feature thought-provoking ideas and offer a platform for insightful blog comments. But let’s face it, none of them keep you coming back every day to make sure you haven’t missed a thing, like this site does.
So what’s our secret?
I’m happy to tell you, because once you know, I think you’ll understand that the writers, editors and researchers who create this site deserve to be visited daily.
A rich, exclusive source of material.
I’ve worked hard for the last two decades to dig a deep well of source material that extends to newspapers, magazines and online news outlets. It is unmatched in the consumer advocacy world. Today, we have thousands of consumers who fill out our help form. Our advocates and writers then choose the most illuminating cases to turn into stories.
Journalism with a purpose.
Our stories go beyond news and tips. We focus on real cases and offer actionable advice, which is how we understand consumer advocacy should be done. Let me put it differently: Other sites go looking for examples when they work on a story; we start with the examples — our cases — and build our stories around a solution everyone can use.
Everything is planned in advance.
I know bloggers who write their posts on the fly and let their commenters “crowd edit” their writing. We take a different approach. Everything is prepared far in advance and then run through at least three layers of editing to squeeze out any errors and omissions. That’s right, three layers. How far in advance? This post was written more than a month ago.
Experience and compassion.
Agree or disagree with the stories you read here, you know that our articles are created by people who care deeply about you and have years of experience. And experience matters. A lot of consumer advocates working for mainstream news outlets parachute in from other departments, completely oblivious to what awaits them. For others, the ink is still drying on their degree. That’s not us.
It’s simple: We’re trusted, they’re not. We won’t poison our advocacy with affiliate links or go shilling for the other side. They will.
And did I mention the attitude?
People are always shocked when they meet our team members — and I definitely include myself in the group — and realize how normal we are. They think, with the way my advocates write, they should be stranger, more eccentric, perhaps a little antisocial. OK, so we advocate with attitude. Sometimes we get a little snarky. But it’s always done for a reason — to bring attention to injustices being committed against our amazing readers. We do it for you.
So why is this site so awesome? Yes, we have stories you won’t read anywhere else, carefully written and edited by advocates with years of experience. And yes, you trust us and love us for it.
But none of that would make any difference without you. The advocates who work on this site know they would not be here without you. So do I.
No blog, site, consumer organization or news outlet loves its readers more than we love you. That’s the honest truth.
We would do anything for you. We’re awesome because you’re awesome.
