Frequently asked questions about Adventure Tours

Yes, Adventure Tours can be contacted via an online chat service.
Cancellation and change policies vary depending on the tour and booking terms.
Adventure Tours Australia guides have the authority to modify or cancel individual activities when weather or park conditions make them unsafe or inaccessible — this is explicitly noted in the company's booking conditions and confirmed by multiple recent traveller accounts. The company's published policy does not guarantee a substitute activity or a partial refund if an advertised activity is cancelled due to weather; your recourse is primarily through your travel insurance. If you believe a cancellation was foreseeable (e.g., wet-season closures) and was not disclosed pre-departure, put your complaint in writing within 30 days of tour end, as required by Adventure Tours Australia's booking conditions and escalate to Elliott Advocacy if unresolved.
Travel insurance is mandatory, not optional, for all Adventure Tours Australia travellers. The company's booking conditions require coverage for personal accident, death, medical expenses, and emergency repatriation, with a minimum of AUD $300,000 per category. You must hand over your policy number and the insurer's 24-hour emergency number on Day 1 of your tour — the company states it will refuse to carry a passenger who cannot produce these details. Credit-card-linked travel insurance qualifies, but you need the policy number and the participating insurer's emergency contact, not just your card details.
It depends on the reason for cancellation. If Adventure Tours Australia cancels for reasons within their control, you are entitled to a full cash refund. If Adventure Tours Australia cancels due to a force majeure event (terrorism, natural disaster, government travel advice, political instability), you will receive 100% credit toward a future trip or a refund less any costs the company cannot recover from suppliers. Credit vouchers are valid for 12 months from issue and are not transferable to a future booking until a specific departure is confirmed. If you are offered a credit and would prefer a refund, request it in writing immediately and document your communication; if the company refuses, contact Elliott Advocacy.
If you notify Adventure Tours Australia at least 28 days before your departure, you can transfer to a different departure within the same validity period (April 1–March 31) for a fee of up to AUD $200 per person, plus any charges from third-party suppliers. If you notify them with fewer than 30 days to go, the full cancellation penalties apply instead. No amendments at all are permitted within 7 days of departure. Transfers to another person are also possible with 28 days' notice, provided the new traveller meets all tour requirements.
Adventure Tours Australia's prices are set in AUD and the website may automatically switch the display currency to your local currency if you accept a geo-location prompt. At least one verified complaint on Trustpilot describes paying significantly more in EUR than the equivalent AUD price would have cost, because the currency conversion was applied at the time of booking rather than at spot rate. To avoid this, decline the geo-location popup and manually set the currency to AUD, or book through a third-party agent like TourRadar, which charges in AUD regardless of location. Always confirm the final charged currency in your booking confirmation before paying.
No single supplement applies if you are willing to share accommodation with a same-gender traveller. Adventure Tours Australia's tours predominantly use camping (swag or tent) where solo sharing is standard. If you prefer a private room or tent, a single supplement is available in some cases — contact the company at booking to confirm. On camping-style tours, private accommodation is rarely an option regardless of supplement.
Adventure Tours Australia offers five distinct accommodation styles: swag camping (sleeping outdoors under the stars in a canvas swag), unpowered tents, powered tents, powered bunkhouses, and hostel dorm shares. On Outback tours the most common options are swag and basic tent. Recent reviews from late 2024 note that shared bathroom facilities can be limited (one reviewer cited one functional bathroom for ten people) and tent condition has varied. Before booking, check the specific accommodation type listed in your tour's Essential Trip Information section, not just the tier label.
