Blog comments are a battlefield.

I mean that figuratively and literally. Consider the problems faced by the Ukrainian website Info Resist. As a war between Ukrainian nationalists and rebels raged on, Russian-backed trolls invaded its comments section.

Which comments system should we use?

Yesterday we opened up a discussion about the rules of engagement, and our moderation team is carefully weighing your feedback. It’s been very helpful, and we’ve already made some changes based on the initial comments.

Several readers have suggested that the biggest problem with the discussion is Disqus, which I currently use to manage the comments. They don’t like the last “upgrade” (Disqus 2012) and say they can’t always access the comments.

Some readers believe Livefyre, another cloud-based commenting system, would be better. Others say we should revert to the native WordPress commenting system.

I’m open to change. So I thought we should put it to a vote.

Flying while female? 5 things to remember at the airport

On her last four trips through U.S. airport security, Anita Nagelis says she’s been pulled aside and subjected to a more thorough search by TSA agents, including an aggressive pat-down.

Nagelis, who works for a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C., doesn’t know why. She never set off a metal detector, isn’t on a no-fly list, and no suspicious items are ever discovered in her luggage.

“It’s so odd,” she says. “I don’t fit the profile.”
