Don’t let the bad guys win. You could win something.
By “bad guys” I mean the companies and their apologists who mislead and deceive us with their products or services. I think you know who I’m talking about.
(Hint: Every month, we publish a list of problem companies on this site. We just did it again yesterday.)
They don’t want you to read this site. And they definitely don’t want you to support it.
But if you ignore the voices that seduce you with low prices and lots of gimmicks, you could win. I mean that in two ways: Your support could help consumers win, but more directly, you could win one of the amazing premiums we’re giving away during our spring fundraiser.
It’s that easy.
What are we giving away?
Today, I’m sending out four more Skyroll Spinners, a $299 value. I have owned a Spinner for several years and I love traveling with mine. The Spinner works like a standard carry-on suitcase, except that large clothes go in the garment bag that wraps around the outside of the suitcase. The suitcase and garment bag are designed to be used together, but can also be used as separate pieces of luggage.
Yep, no more ironing!
Tomorrow, I’m giving away the first of our Auto Europe rental vouchers. It’s valid for a three-day basic, economy class, manual transmission car rental, in Europe including unlimited mileage.
If you’re headed to Europe, you’ll definitely want one of these.
Many, many thanks to our underwriter sponsors Skyroll and Auto Europe for their participation. But I know what you’re thinking: “Why should I get involved?”
Let me tell you something about the bad guys.
Maybe you’ve been on the other end of one of their “deals.” You had no choice but to accept a higher price on an item after being conned by a too-good-to-be-true sale. Or maybe you were betrayed by the fine print on a service.
It’s a terrible feeling — an agonizing mix of anger and helplessness.
These are your adversaries. They’re our adversaries.
But like in the movies, the bad guys won’t win. We can’t let them.
It all starts with supporting the good guys — the people who are on your side, fighting for you every day. This consumer advocacy site, staffed with dozens of volunteers and read by good people like you, is one of the protagonists in this screenplay of life.
Right now, the bad guys are nervous. We’re just $3,000 away from meeting our spring fundraising goal.
They don’t want you to become a supporter.
They’d rather lure you in with sales and gimmicks — anything to keep you from realizing that you’re getting ripped off. And they definitely don’t want you to read this site. In fact, they’ve done everything in their power to shut down the advocacy, including threats of lawsuits, denial-of-service attacks and trolling.
Simply put, they want me to go away, they want your favorite advocacy site to disappear and they want you to stop thinking about a better, fairer world where you get the products and service you’re entitled to.
But you’re not going to do that, are you?
Even if you don’t support the advocacy work financially, the very fact that you’re reading this means you care about this fight. You don’t want to see the bad guys get away with their cheating and chicanery. I’m grateful to have you on my side, even if you decide to not become a formal supporter of this effort.
But if you want to do more — if you want to send a loud message that consumers will not roll over and play dead anymore — then please consider putting your name on this wall today.
The fundraiser ends soon. We only have a few more days. With your help, we’ll have a Hollywood ending everyone deserves.
