From all outward appearances, the consumer advocacy site I run with my team of volunteers may look like a runaway success.
Last month, our cases more than doubled from a year ago. Traffic to the site hits records every month. And our 13th Readers’ Choice Award was the biggest ever. We’re doing real good every day.
But all is not what it seems.
Behind the scenes, the last few weeks have been a nerve-wracking rollercoaster ride. Just yesterday, my editor informed me that one of my columns had been cut. There are a few key corporate underwriters who may not return next year. I’m looking at the bills that are coming due in early 2018 for web and email hosting and IT, and I’m not entirely sure how I’ll cover them.
Fortunately, it’s time for our winter fundraiser, which is your best opportunity to lend a hand. This year’s drive will be special in many ways. I’m working on lining up the best premiums and giveaways, including a few really big surprises.
But please don’t wait for Dec. 18, the official start of our winter fundraiser. I hope you’ll consider jumping in to become a supporter of the advocacy work now. Here’s how you can save this site.
I’m giving away Boingo accounts (while they last) to everyone who signs up the week before the winter fundraiser begins.
The benefits to you are difficult to overstate. We now have a team of advocates available 24/7 to help answer questions and advocate for you for any consumer problem. Our database of executive contacts grows every day and has been proven to fix customer service problems quickly. And, despite the cuts, I still have the largest and most influential consumer advocacy column in North America from which to call out bad businesses.
This winter, the advocacy needs to be saved — by you. Your financial support will keep the advocacy going in 2018.
I hope you’ll consider supporting the work my team members and I are doing every day. Here’s how to get involved now.
