This scrunchy says it all: I’m mad as #$%% and I’m not gonna take it anymore!

But before I give you details on this offer, let’s talk about you. Whose side are you on?

Just this morning, I heard a story on the radio about shrinking airline seat sizes. One of the sources, an obscure corporate apologist, claimed smaller seats were good for passengers because they’d made air travel more affordable.

It made me think of a debate more than a century ago that led to the establishment of New York’s tenement laws. I’m sure there were plenty of “thought leaders” who claimed windowless apartments without running water created “more opportunities” for immigrants coming to the city.

How laughable that would sound today.

And yet, how many of us, without even thinking about the false logic behind it, believe the argument that smaller seats equal lower ticket prices?

See, corporate America wants you to think your expectations are too high, and that you really deserve the appliance that breaks down or the tiny airline seat in economy class. They say you deserve it because you aren’t willing to pay a lot for it. They even claim it’s good for you.

What nonsense!

Are we suffering from a collective Stockholm Syndrome?

Saying you deserve to be mistreated is a kind of Stockholm Syndrome for customers. You know Stockholm Syndrome? It’s a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors. You agree that your “ridiculous” demand for a lower price means you should be mistreated or receive a substandard product.

If you’re suffering from this kind of collective Stockholm Syndrome, you’ll probably click away right about now. No, you’ll say to yourself, this is how a free market works.

This site isn’t for you, because we’re consumer advocates, not company advocates. (Before you leave, know one thing: Although we disagree, you can always contact us with a consumer problem, and we’ll fight for you, regardless of your ideology.)

But if you agree with me that you deserve more — that you’re entitled to a quality product at a fair price — then it’s time to take a stand with me and my team of consumer advocates.

Like you, we cringe whenever a company shill says, “You get what you pay for.” That kind of propaganda turns otherwise reasonable consumers into automatons who profess a mindless loyalty to a company.

“Wake up!” I want to tell them. But my team and I are vastly outnumbered. This important message can’t reach the masses without your help.

That’s why I’m writing this today. Please participate in our fall fundraiser to reverse this alarming trend.

The server melted down again!

Last week we raised $4,000 toward our new server, which will cost about $10,000 a year. But that’s only a fraction of our fundraising goal.

We need to raise a total of $40,000 between now and Thanksgiving. It’s our most ambitious fundraiser ever. And that’s because the need is greater than ever. Unless we can move to a bigger server, the search engines will continue to throttle our traffic, preventing us from reaching a wider audience.
