With Alitalia on the verge of financial collapse and possible liquidation, booking travel on the airline would be foolish.

And, because of its trouble, Alitalia staff are both angry and demoralized . As a result, the legendary Alitalia customer service has become even worse (if that's possible).

Better to fly to ZRH, FRA or VIE and take a fine train to Rome or wherever you're headed in Italy (which is a magnificent country that, unfortunately, is home to Alitalia).
