I have also had problems with Copa. My wife recently flew from Washington D.C. To Quito, Ecuador. On the trip her luggage was rifled, and numerous items were stolen. I immediately called Copa here in the U.S. and all they told me to do was to have my wife report it in Quito. No one wanted to do anything. The theft probably happened during the lay-over in Panama, so the agents in Quito had no interest in doing anything. Now after having reported it two weeks ago to numerous agents in COPA, there has been no response. I will never fly COPA again, and hope that few people have to deal with them in this manner again.
