TSA is a sad joke. I wear suspenders. If I unclip 1 side & throw it over my shoulder, I usually pass without a problem. I have been lectured (obnoxiously) for having a 24 g (less than 1 oz) travel size tube of toothpaste that was not in "an approved size plastic bag".
I refuse to turn my back on my luggage when being "wanded". This really upsets TSA. I just do not trust them & it is my responsibilty to safe guard my belongings. I also do not go through the Scanner Gate until all my carry-on luggage has enetered the belt scanner.

"Will there be a repeat of September 11? Unless the federal government and the aviation industry start take security seriously, there’s no question about it."

No, there won't. 9/11 happened because the passengers believed that it was just a hijacking, and that they would be OK as long as they co-operated. No one believes that any more.

I've never flown El Al, but did fly through Tel Aviv on a couple of occasions in the early 70's when I was a kid. Back then, their security was strict - even my little purse (I was 10 years old) was checked. My mother had cosmetics in their original packaging - they were torn out of the packaging, each item opened up and checked. The luggage would be lined up on the tarmac by the plain, and before boarding, you had to identify your luggage. Any unidentified bags were left behind. I remember all of this as if it were yesterday.
