I was under the impression that Medicare did not cover medical expenses out of the country. Recently I have been involved with a Medicare Advantage program and I am under the impression that it will cover a medical emergency out of the country. Can you comment on this.

Hello:

Medical Claims outside the US can be tricky for some companies.

There are a few factors at play, and here are some of them:

1. Was the patient treated as an inpatient or outpatient?
2. Was the travel insurance company contacted prior to treatment/medical visit?
3. Does the customers US based policy provide any coverage for medical emergencies outside of the US.

I have an eighteen year background in travel insurance, and large co's like AA have many different policies with many different t and c's for each of them.

As usual, Chris came through!!! Well Done!!!

So, is Access America a reliable insurance company or not? I am traveling to the Isle of Man for two weeks in April and need to buy travel insurance, especially medical coverage, just in case something unfortunate happens. After reading about the fake insurance companies, I am unsure how to tell the legit, reliable companies from ones that are not. Would you say Access America is a reliable company?
