I use Priceline myself and have used it for 2 London trips both hotels were 80.00 a night and both were 4 star and very nice. I recommend using betterbidding.com to do your homework before you bid or use hotwire

I love Hotwire and use it all the time. There are sites out there that list what hotels Hotwire has contracts with and if you do some research you can usually (but not always) figure out which hotel you're purchasing before you buy. That said, Europe is trickier.

I just paid $150 a night (including taxes) for the Club Quarters Trafalgar Square and I can't say enough nice things about the location, cleanliness, and size/comfort of the rooms. It wasn't perfect but $150 a night for two beds in LONDON is amazing!

I had a similar experience with Hotwire on a one night reservation in Anahiem, CA. The hotel wanted to add a large "Resort Fee" and did not offer wifi service as listed in the Hotwire info on the unnamed hotel. Hotel management basically told me take it or leave it, but we are keeping your money. I called Hotwire from the hotel lobby and they not only released me from the reservation, but found me another room at a nearby hotel for about the same money. I use Hotwire often for business travel and with rare exceptions have been pleased with the value received. Only a couple of times in the last few years has there been an issue at check in and each case a call to Hotwire has quickly resolved the issue to my satisfaction.

Of course that's what he meant. Why would you think otherwise??? I believe Chris was trying to NOT be too wordy. I understood perfectly what he was directing the future traveler to do and I too would have done that vs. battling it out after a long days flight. That's the benefit of using the good 'ol VISA card.

@Chris

I assume when you say book another room and dispute the charges, you mean dispute the Hotwire charges. The new hotel has nothing to do with the dispute and shouldn't be dragged into it.

The Park Hotel is pretty much the norm for low priced UK hotels. If you're going to London and are not paying upwards of $400 a day for a room expect your hotel to be a toxic waste dump with rooms the size of jail cells until proven otherwise. Even if you are paying these sorts of prices, you can't really expect your room to be clean or the service any good. Lousy service and sky-high prices are all part of the British experience!
