I have the Canon HF S10 and all my videos look fine on Youtube. It's probally the software that you are using to edit them that is doing it.

"After a few tries, I finally figured out how to make the border disappear."
How did you do this. I too am pulling my hair out and would really appreciate an insight into how to remove the border.

Canon Vixia HFS 10 ?

I would love to you as I to have the camera, just have not returned it yet. I am very much the amateur, just trying to shoot family vacation video. My questions are around;
1. What software do you use to edit? Are you using a MAC? If so which one? Are you using IMOVIE? Are you having problems with the 24bps or cinema mode?
2. How are you transferring the video to your computer?

And the list goes on. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

[...] In a previous column, I described my frustration with how YouTube handled aspect ratios on the Canon Vixia HFS10. Well, I finally figured out how to get rid of that annoying black border I was griping about. Load [...]
