At least when US Airways stared charging $25 for a second bag. They did recognize the frequent flier as they waive this fee as long as your silver or higher. Same goes for United as well.

The basic problem of all these fees and surcharges is that they are simply unfair because the charger never discloses them upfront. They are just a way of lowering the advertised price, while still chipping a lot of extra money out of the customer. I basically believe it's cheating. Companies who do it to me, see me leave as customer. However, that attitude is getting harder and harder to live by because everybody seems to charge nonsensical fees.

And BTW: why are airlines complaining about competition when ALL airlines are charged with the same govt tax? And why are they whining about a 50 CENT tax, when they are charging $50 extra for a bag? That's *one hundred* times more!

Resort fees are one of the most insane ideas to pop up. I've been to LaQuinta in Palm Desert for several golf tournaments where the fee was waived. However, when planning a vacation to a particular hotel or resort, shouldn't this fee already be factored into the price of the room? If you're already spending in excess of $200 night, the $10-$15 additional daily charge is a joke. (Oh, and so is the meal charge for coach air travel.)

Maybe some of the Hawaiian hotel resorts are getting the picture. When we stayed at the Westin Maui resort on Kaanapali the week before Christmas 2007, we found a note in the room explaining that the daily resort charge had been "dropped" due to its unpopularity. I don't know if this only applied to our room category (we were in upgraded room on SPG floor) or for the Christmas season, but it was appreciated.
