This article fails to mention one other very important fact that the traveling public seems to constantly overlook: What is your TIME worth? All the time spent surfing the internet, waiting on hold, frustrated by the lack of a reservation agent with good English. You simply say a Travel Agent will "cost you more" but do they? Are the majority of web surfers proficient enough to actually find the lowest fares? If an agent finds a way to save them $100 on their airfare, how does that "cost them more"? I sure would not want my spouse planning and booking a long awaited vacation with the family. She is a Secretary, not a Travel Agent...the time spent surfing the net could be better spent as quality time with my church, friends or family. Leave the planning to a professional. Use a Travel Agent. I bet you will be surprised to learn how much time, money and frustration they can really SAVE you!
