I absolutely agree with Bob Lorentzen and Elliott. I have limited funds and price things out closely. That hidden fee is a major cost that must be out front so I can factor it in on the overall expense or else I stay home!

Nothing upsets me more than a hotel hitting me for extra fees when I check in. I book on the internet. If I see two three star hotels with the same general location and amenities, I pick the one that offers the best price. I'm really ticked when I checkin and find that I am required to pay any additional fees -- including $15 per night for parking on the far side of a the hotel's outside parking lot and getting soaked while walking to the main entrance or a healthy fee for wireless internet that the hotel next door offers for free.

Hotwire and other travel sites should not just list that high speed wireless and other amenities are available -- they should say if there is a charge. If these fees were listed up front and true competition used to price the room, the fees would quickly go away.

This is not just about the hotel making a little more profit on a room -- it is bait and switch of the worst kind. Offering an unreal price to entice travelers to stay and at the same time keeping another hotel that prices honestly from getting a night's stay.
