Indeed heat stroke at Disney World in July 2005 was no fun. Unfortunately, school holidays in summer determine when parents can travel with their kids. The temperature during Spring break is much more favourable, but one week is a rather short time to fit in all the diversions available.

If sightseeing is the purpose of travel to Europe, I think that September and October are the best months to go. It is cooler then and the crowds have thinned out thus making it easier to experience everything. I also recommend package tours for first-time travellers. Most people want to travel independently, but there are many pitfalls awaiting the unwary. The tour guides' regimentation and indoctrination are a valuable eye-opener. After such an experience, European travel is a "piece of cake." Since that first tour - eight countries in 15 days - I have returned eight times and have a store of treasured memories.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. All of this advice is only too true. The old adage that 'you get what you pay for' is only too true in the situations that you name here. While these are good ways to get *deals* i think that your advice on avoiding them during certain times might be only too true...
