I totally agree that economy seats should be locked in an upright position...my lap seems to be a magnet to inconsiderate recliners...I have long legs...and every transatlantic flight I take is ruined by recliners...if people feel the need to lie down for the entire flight...they should pay extra and fly upperclass....why should I have to try and watch a seat back tv 2 inches in front of my face just because the recliner feels it's his/her right to invade my space....drives me crazy

This is already happening in Europe - new aircraft ordered by Ryanair do not have any reclining seats.

I totally agree with locking seats in place. In fact, this is one of my real hot buttons when flying. I'm a 5'11" female with long legs and a slight case of claustrophbia - even in an aisle seat, when the passenger in front of me rclines, my anxity level rises. Lock 'um up!!

For all of the above reasons and my nightmare--the passenger in front of me who puts his seat back just after the flight attendant passes by; usually just as my dinner goes onto the tray. The reason I carry a change of clothes in my carry-on.

Why do we give in to the airlines and allow them to pack us in like sardines? Rather than demand and expect comfortable space, we give up and recommend seats that no longer recline. I am over 6 foot tall and the recline on a long flight is important. So important that I fly United because of its Economy Plus which is free as a frequent flier and I no longer give my business to the other arilines that treat me like a sardine. I find this a much more productive and message sending statement than getting rid of reclining seats.

Couldn't agree more. If not locked completely, only let the seats recline an inch or two. This is LONG overdue!

I agree that we should get rid of reclining seats - the sooner the better. I have long legs and when the person in front of me (usually a short person) reclines his/her seat I can't read or even move!

I agree that reclining seat backs should be locked in the upright position. Reclining doesn't actually make the coach class torture any more comfortable for the recliner. Instead, it simply makes the person sitting behind him more uncomfortable. I often have to ask the passenger ahead of me to change his reclining position to enable me to exit a window seat or to use my tray because there is iinsufficient space when his head is in my lap!

I'm totally with you. In fact, I recently posted the exact same sentiment on my blog.

<a href="http://www.xanga.com/effyourself/457270458/please-return-your-seats-to-their-upright-positions.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.xanga.com/effyourself/457270458/please-return-your-seats-to-their-upright-positions.html</a>

We should unite and fight this growing (or shrinking) problem!
