For me, one of the joys of traveling is the chance to sample different cuisine than what I'm able to get at home. Whether it's authentic New Mexican enchiladas (with green sauce, of course) in Santa Fe, a perfectly seasoned cheese steak from Geno's in South Philly, a plate of grilled meats in Bavaria, or a gyro in Athens, I always enjoy eating local dishes.

I agree that it can be tempting to give up and just eat at McDonald's, where the menu is familiar and the food is consistent[ly mediocre], but why would you spend all the money to go to Europe and live like an American? With the worldwide spread of fast food, American hotel chains and WalMart, you can have the same experience abroad as you do at home. Part of the adventure of traveling is living differently than you do at home.
