I've had great success planning my vacations during the two weeks before and after high season. Usually that translates into spring and fall just before/after youngsters are in school. The major crowds have departed, but everything is still in full operation and the weather is delightful for sightseeing. And without a doubt the least expensive time to get away from a cold snowy winter and onto a Caribbean beach is the first two weeks in January. Everyone is so stressed from the holidays, they're not ready to vacations yet, so resorts drop their prices substantially.
