@Philip: I think you'd be arrested immediately, thrown into a small room at the airport, and put on the airline's "do not fly" list. Personally, I'd try to see if someone could fake a heart attack or medical problem before trying something that extreme. In fact, I'm surprised no one has.

When you are sitting in a plane for seven hours without water, food and functioning toilet, wouldn't that constitute "an emergency?" No doubt about it, passengers are held virtual prisoners under "cruel and unusual punishment."
Could we, and what would happen, if we opened the emergency door, released the chute, and "escaped?" Especially if the terminal is within walking distance.

Tarmac delays are not hard to figure out. All you have to do (as an airline) is think ahead, and provide customer service. The only hard problem is how to write a law that forces airlines to treat their customers as just that, and not as cattle.

Tarmac delays are easy to understand, the other issues are too complicated and individual so they defy simple sound bites. The people who figure out credit card regulations, if they ever get straightened out, should next work on airline tickets. It will take months of intense work to decipher, but it should be so simple.I want to go from here to there, how much will it cost?
