I work at an airport in US. It's absolutely mind boggling what TSA confiscates irregardless of personal worth. NO common sense or reasoning and regulations dictate. Where does it end up?? Trash compactor, auction, and who really know's!

I just flew out of San Jose, Costa Rica through San Salvador to Dulles and the Costa Rican screeners allow liquids, all of my cosmetics, bottles of water, and open plastic takeout containers of black bean dip and salsa from another passenger. It really seems that the policy needs to be lifted, it does no good if even one airport allows liquids.

The screeners did, however quickly catch a Leatherman my husband forgot to check. They were very kind, did not confiscate it and helped him to go back and quickly check it.
