As I was reading the interview, I kept asking myself, "What does his use of the seatbelt have ANYTHING to do with stuff falling on his head?" In a short answer, "nothing". This act would have absolutely no bearing on whether he was wearing a seat belt or not. It WOULD have a bearing on aircraft maintenance in which the overhead storage bins need their locking devices UPGRADED to prevent this sort of accident happening to anyone.
