To request a refund from Marriott, follow these steps:

  1. Review cancellation policies:
    • Check the cancellation policies for your reservation. Most refundable hotel reservations allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before check-in.
    • For flights, airlines often have more restrictive cancellation policies. Typically, you can get a full refund within 24 hours of buying your ticket.
  2. Cancellation reasons:
    • The reason for cancellation matters. You’re more likely to get a refund or credit if:
      • The carrier cancels your reservation due to extreme weather, political turmoil, or local travel restrictions.
      • You or a family member falls ill, and a physician restricts travel.
      • You’re relocating for a job or military deployment.
  3. Document your reasons:
    • If you’re canceling for personal reasons, provide enough evidence to the travel provider or insurance company.
    • Keep trip-related emails until the claims process is complete.
  4. Filing deadlines:
    • Act quickly! Each travel provider and insurance carrier has different filing deadlines. Notify them as soon as you know about the cancellation.
  5. Contact the travel provider:
    • Reach out directly to the airline, hotel, cruise line, or tour provider.
    • Ask about any fees for changes or cancellations. They might waive fees for extenuating circumstances.
