Billie Keirstead,
The company I use may not fit your individual needs; however, I too found a company suiting my needs through insuremytrip.com.

Thanks for asking.

I also use insuremytrip.com. It's nice to compare companies, prices, coverage. In most cases, if you buy your insurance within a certain time of booking your vacation, you are covered for preexisting conditions as well.

Good luck on anyone collecting anything from these people. I have court judgment against someone in North Carolina and there's not chance I'll ever have the satisfaction of getting a dime from the guy who ripped me off. They will just move to another state and set up business again.

Billie Keirstead, I use insuremytrip.com to find independent travel insurance. There is no one size fits all travel insurance policy, so a site like that is great for comparing what is offered.

Don, what private travel insurance do you have? Where can I find information about it? We are planning a trip soon and I definitely do not want to get caught in this travel protection scam again. Thanks.

And Insurance Law Guy: does that mean that all of us who have been cheated by these travel agents who sold us worthless protection and have unpaid claims will likely never see recompense? It seems likely that if these travel agencies go out of business, they will just open up under new names in a matter of weeks, al la Jerry Watson.

These agencies will not be able to stay in business if they are ordered (or if the consumers sue and previal) to pay all premiums whether claims were filed or not. E&O carriers will decline to pay once they become aware these agencies sold illegal policies through mulitiple companies over a period of years which appears to be the case.

The part I think would be the order to pay all outstanding claims left unpaid by the "Travel Protection" folks. CAN they afford to pay it? Is that the sort of thing that would be covered by the agencies "Errors and Omissions" insurance?

There always seem to be someone will to cheat people. I travel a lot and I love collecting postcards from every location (http://www.1millionpostcards.com); however, I quit purchasing random travel insurance a long time ago. Now I have private travel insurance, which (when you add up all the rip-offs) is actually cheaper over time.

God bless all your endeavors,
