@TDP: *laugh* That is a "superdumb" comment. :-)

The airlines I'm used to have a clause in their contract of carriage that specifically allows you to get the lower fare, IF you let them know about it. If Virgin doesn't have this, what does it say about them?

Well Laurie that is a superdumb reason for complaining. Ticket prices fluctuate in accordance with predicted demand... so buying earlier does not mean you get the cheapest deals. Often, quite the opposite.

I am being ignored by Virgin's "customer relations" department as well. Last month, I bought two roundtrip tickets for $1,600 each, flying in February. Now the same tickets are selling for $1,100 each. I have emailed and faxed repeatedly asking for refunds, vouchers or upgrades. But I have received no response at all. I guess the next step is to contact the credit card company. I have always thought of Virgin as a ideal airline, but I will never fly with them again.

when an airline cancels flight, it books customers on another airline. but not all airlines have matching fares and matching cabins which resulted in booking this customer in economy and without refund especially because he purchased deeply discounted and restricted fare. he could have taken refund of his ticket (if it was an option) and buy himself another ticket (it is not very likely he would get anything for that money on the day of departure) or booking on another airline that matches fare he actually paid...

What happened to the $250 in promised vouchers? How can Chris call this a happy ending, as if FF miles are a satisfactory solution?

As the person involved, and as I have told my tale to many people, I agreed with Carver that I should have had the cash refund. In my initial complaint, I requested that Virgin refund me roughly the $400 difference between the Economy and Premium seats. If I were to give Virgin benefit of the doubt, they're position is if it was a ticket bought with no restrictions, they might have done that. What's most frustrating is that I brought this up immediately after the flight was canceled in March, and only by having to going to bring in Elliot and five months of pushing could I get any sort of satisfaction where this could have been resolved easily in a few weeks if Virgin wanted to and avoided the embarrassment. I don't see what benefit Virgin got by dragging this out.

Perhaps I am missing something since I have flown on neither airline. Since Simon booked his flight in a premium cabin, and he was involuntarily rebooked in a lower cabin, why should he accept airline funny money or even miles. Seems like he is entitled to cold hard cash, immediately.

It seems to me that SImon could also have demanded that Virgin book him in the correct class at the time of the flight.
