Forget everything you’ve seen on TV, heard on the radio or read in blogs about holiday air travel. Early indications are that things are running remarkably smoothly out there. Here are on-time numbers from the last 12 hours for the 10 busiest airports in the United States, courtesy of Flightstats.
1. Atlanta – 89%
2. Chicago – 86%
3. Los Angeles – 86%
4. Dallas – 81%
5. Denver – 64%
6. Las Vegas – 90%
7. New York (JFK) – 90%
8. Houston – 92%
9. Phoenix – 80%
10. Newark – 90%
So get out there and stop worrying. Unless you’re in Denver.

Of course, everything is running smoothly! Didn’t you hear that president Bush single-handedly fixed all the problems?
Riiiiight.
I flew through Denver on Thanksgiving Day, and had NO problems what-so-ever. I only had a hour lay-over, but, everything looked like it was running very smoothly at noon that day.
I travelled over Thanksgiving this year – somethine a retired Road Warrior NEVER does, and had busy airports, but no problems, no delays, no problems with security. I did add a half hour extra for airport arrivals, and did not need it. TPA-HOU-DEN-TPA.
Not only was Thanksgiving travel not bad, it was surprisingly good. Southwest’s new boarding system worked wonderfully and I arrived in San Francisco 20 minutes…ahead of schedule!
