Shades of reality at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa

They did it again. They let me out of the room with a camera, a tripod and a thing for HDRs. (HDRs are high dynamic range images — pictures taken at various exposures and then digitally combined.)

It helps that we checked into the Doral Golf Resort & Spa just as a late afternoon thunderstorm had cleared. Shades of dark and light in the trees, clouds, and windows were begging for the HDR treatment.

I had to say “yes.”

We’re here for a Nickelodeon weekend, where the kids get to meet SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. Should be interesting.

What are the ghosts in the center of the second image?

Bruce, when you combine images, anything that’s moving looks like a ghost. I thought the surreal golf cart added to the other-worldliness of that image.

I just wanted to say that I really liked the second picture. I had not yet heard about HDRs – though I’ve combined pictures (with similar exposures) before. Is there a particular program you use to do this, or is it some option in Photoshop I have not found yet?

@Daniel, I use a program called Photomatix pro.

Photomatix Pro is probably the easiest to use, but it costs money…if you already have Photoshop CS2 or better, HDR merging is built in. Check the Photoshop Help page on how to do this.
