In our travel agency's experience, an airline will either reaccomodate or refund if a "schedule change" occurs due to a strike. At least, that's how we've handled similar scenarios with other airlines.

Unfortunately that was dependent on them.

Having spent a good portion of my adult lift in Minneapolis I can offer a few suggestions for Ms. Desai dependiung on where in India she needs to go. American has a Chicago Delhi flight where she may be able to get a code-share flight on Jet Airways, she may also be able to get a Jet Airways code-share out of Brussels to India. If she has a refundable ticket Northwest, err Delta can connect her with a code-share fliught out of Amsterdam on KLM to either Mombai or Delhi. As for her parents out of Philly, doesn't Continental still have a Newark-Delhi flight? Now that Continental is in Star, there may be a code-sahre on Air India out of Delhi to her final destination.

Mr. Ashley, you are correct. My parents are flying on a codeshare flight booked directly through AA. They are likely to be taken care of. My husband and I are booked instead on a linked itinerary, so I guess we may fall into the linked itinerary gap! Not as catchy-sounding, though, is it! =)

Orbitz is trying their darndest, and for that (and LaDawn in North Dakota) I am appreciative, but I'd love to know for sure what is happening. Does anyone know if between the 1997 strike and now, BA Crew has voted for strike action but not actually went on strike? If so, there is hope yet!

@Mark, you're right. Only American has a codeshare arrangement with BA via the <a href="http://www.oneworld.com/" rel="nofollow">Oneworld alliance</a>. I've adjusted the text to reflect that.

(Sorry, hit enter too soon on the first one)
My dad just heard from American Airlines. He said they told him to call back later and added that it is the British Airways problem if they cancel or change flights. He tried again to get a different schedule, even changing the arrival city, and they want a $3,000 fee for each ticket.

Meanwhile, I contacted Continental, who at first wanted a $6,000 fare for each ticket, then found a different flight which was "only" $3,000 each. For coach to a different arrival city.

We are hoping that the strike action will remain at the vote and that union leadership will not decide to put it into action! That seems our only option at this point. Good luck everyone!

Chris, I wonder if Ms. Desai and you are mis-using the term "code-share" in this instance.

In the case of the husband and wife flying Continental to connect to BA, I doubt this is a codeshare issue. Continental doesn't codeshare with British Airways. (The tickets that take passengers to London on AA are potentially codeshared with BA, but that's not a guarantee, either.) If they're having trouble, it's with the agency, not necessarily with codesharing.

The advice to contact the point of sale is important. Whether the flight is sold as a BA ticket or under any other airline's code, it's important to start with the company who sold you the ticket, whether it's an airline or an agency.
