Hurricane season officially begins June 1. But why wait? Tropical storm Aletta made its debut over the weekend, menacing the Mexican coast. And there’s more to come, with NOAA predicting between 13 and 16 named storms.

Travelers still look for bargains during storm season, and they book their vacations without buying travel insurance or without reading their policies carefully to see if they would be covered in the event of a cyclone.
That means there will be a predictable number of e-mails and calls from readers in November and December, asking for refunds on hotels or flights when none are due.
