As a seller of travel I am completely honest with my clients about all charges that will be added to their payment that were not advertised. I also tell the same thing to all those who wish to book online without an agent because the prices are cheaper...when will they ever learn...like casinos, the house never loses but better to have TA protection then online provider....we have many dirty stories to tell about cruise lines.
Keep up the good work being the police for all those cheaters who can mask the diceptive methods they use for a money grab. Thank you.

I agree! Where do these fines go anyway? I never see any benefit from these types of fines, whether they are imposed on sanitary districts, airline or cruise lines. The people that suffered are left out of the equation.

I agree with Jim J: It is time the government require the companies to return these surcharge fees to the customers that paid them. While $36,000 might be an annual salary to many people, it is a drop in the bucket for most of these companies.

Gee, a $36,000 fine. Costa Cruise Lines probably bilked its passengers much more than that amount in illegal fuel charges. How about making the cruise line pay back to their customers what they illegally took and then fining them two or three times the amount of the refunds. These companies will stop their deceptive practices either when the fines become meaningful or their executives, who approve these practices, are charged with criminal violations and face the prospect of jail time.

We have,as of yet,to encounter any web based cruise seller that lists the
total price of the cruise . They all require you to click through to get the total price and some want your email ,name, ages, etc before they will. We wish the DOT would go after them.
