Yes, we received a falsified Toll "ticket" from the scummy folks at American Car Rental in Orlando. They charged our credit card $35 for a toll that we supposedly missed. Only problem: We weren't in Orlando on the day they specified that we missed a toll. On closer examination of the papers the car rental company sent, we can see that they used a Florida Dept of Transportation letterhead and faked the notification of a missed toll. We will be pursuing it with all legal means. First we will stop the payment on the credit card, next we share the fraudulent documents with the Florida Attorney General and third we will post on every forum and review site that we can find. There must be thousands of families who go to Orlando, rent a car and then a few weeks later find they have a $35 charge for a missed toll and think that they must have missed paying somewhere. It is all BS and must be fought. I've also read online of Budget and Advantage and Dollar car rental doing the same. If it happens to you, reverse the charge and call the Florida Attorney General Fraud Hotline:1-866-966-7226

I have been charged by Florida E-Toll through Avis 4 times, and I was over 500 miles away from the toll road. I have never used the East/West Express close to Miama. Avis was no help other than providing my credit card info to E-Toll for billing. E-Toll said they would provide a photo, but did not because I was not there, yet I could not stop the payments.

Horrified by Dollar toll fees....didn't see any tolls...and didn't know there are tolls there are no ways to pay with cash in Florida......huge overcharges by Dollar.....actual charge by state of Florida $3.50; Dollar charges...$76.00.....When the actual fee charged by the state of Florida is $2.50 administrative fee, and many tolls are 50 cents or 25 cents, this is not a great rate, but a huge profit for the company. And, if you don't buy the pass, they attempt to charge you 29 TIMES....I believe that is 2900% (if my math is right)...of the ACTUAL fees charged by the state of Florida. HORRIBLE!....A company to boycott in my opinion!

We got charged by Avis for a toll, and we were 500 miles away from where this toll occurred. The company in New York who manages these e-tolls for Avis was very unpleasant, and talked to us as though we were lying when we tried to explain we were no where near where this supposed toll occurred. When we said we had a receipt for a hotel we were checking into at the time this toll occurred, they said that wasn't sufficient evidence.

We ended up contacting the toll company itself and requested a search of their database for our Avis rental license plate number on the day and time of the supposed toll. No records of the license plate were in the database. After more searches, it came to light it was a totally different car with a similar license plate that passed through that toll, not our car.

We've asked the toll company to contact the Avis company in New York to get this straightened out. Meanwhile, we're wondering how many other people rent Avis cars and get false toll charges slapped onto their credit cards.

Today I woke up to find that racketeering has been legalized on the toll roads across this fine country of ours. E-Toll sounds like a convenient way to get through the antiquated system at toll booths. In my particular case I paid for tolls with cash each time I went though a gate a someow still managed to get charged for toll a second time through the E-Toll network. I can only speculate but my concern is I will now spend considerably more time and money chasing my $14.75 than is actually worth it. Congratulations to these individuals who have figured a brand new and exciting different way to screw me out of a few extra dollars.......... just when I thought every other method had already been tried.

Received a notice of an unpaid toll ($.80) from 2 years ago (2007) of which we had no prior notification. We are in Calif. the toll was in Ill.. They now want $55.00 for a problem we knew nothing about. I tried to send an e-mail to HTA, but were told the date of the notification (10/12/2009) was invalid. Any suggestions? Thanks

I got a toll violation going across the Golden Gate Bridge in a rental as I did not have cash. Offered to pay by credit card, but they don't take it. They gave a toll violation warning stating that a violation would be issued by mail and that I had to wait.

Given it was a rental car company, I knew that would be a problem. FasTrak would not let me pay it without a citation number, which they could not give me. And Fox Rent a Car could not help us either.

A few weeks later I got a Notice from VMS staing they had charged $40.00 to my credit card and that I was under obligation to pay FasTrak the $6.00 toll and $25.00 fine.

In anticipation of this, I had my credit card cancel the card and issue me a new number. So VMS has not been able to charge me even though they state they have.

Carver, I'm not sure what your deal is, but you really do come off as a tool or a moron. I'm not sure which, but anyone reading your posts should avoid them like the plague.

To follow up on my previous post on my violation: The clowns at HTA, LLC caved. I filed an online dispute and called them. The first guy I talked to went through the same routine as noted by others, asking me if I had a reciept (for a $0.50 toll from 7 months prior). No, of course I don't. I asked him if he kept reciepts for 50 cents for seven months?

His response: Well, they really come in handy in times like these.

My response? OK, well do you have a video showing I went through this toll, a copy of the reciept issued to HTA, LLC from the New Jersey Turnpike saying that you did in fact pay this toll to them on my behalf, and a copy of my signature on the HTA, LLC customer agreement that says I agreed to the terms and conditions you're trying to hold me to now?

Dead.
Silence.

Another woman, his supervisor came on the line and asked me more questions trying to bail the first guy out. Asking if I'm a prefered Avis customer, a AAA member, a bunch of questions to put me in a category where they can help me out...after answering know to all of them, he offers to reduce my administrative fee anyway, because he's such a nice guy.

So, now its a $15 administrative fee instead of $25.

I laugh hysterically.

I explain that its still at ridiculous charge, and up to this point they haven't even established I did ANYTHING WRONG, that they have PAID THE TRANSIT AUTHORITY, or that I ever AGREED TO THE TERMS.

Dead.
Silence.

I tell them I submitted my appeal, and they say they will review it. I stated that its bull, that I wanted videographic evidence of the violation, a copy of the bill from the actual toll agency sent to Avis, any paperwork transferring my violation from Avis to HTA, and a copy of my signature that showed my acceptance to terms and conditions to the polices and fees of HTA.

About a week later I got an email that they accepted my appeal and were going to charge me the $0.50 toll plus a $2 "administrative processing fee".

They are a scam operation trying to scare people into paying a ridiculous fee. Anyone with half a brain should see that, realize it, even Carver.

Anyone reading this, take the proper steps to appeal anything you get from these people any they'll fold up pretty quickly.

So, now its a $15 administrative fee instead of $25.

I laugh hysterically.

I explain that its still at ridiculous charge, and up to this point they haven’t even established I did ANYTHING WRONG, that they have PAID THE TRANSIT AUTHORITY, or that I ever AGREED TO THE TERMS.

Dead.

About a week later I got an email that they accepted my appeal and were going to charge me the $0.50 toll plus a $2 “administrative processing fee”.

They are a scam operation trying to scare people into paying a ridiculous fee. Anyone with half a brain should see that, realize it, even Carver.

Anyone reading this, take the proper steps to appeal anything you get from these people any they’ll fold up pretty quickly.
