After dark at The Shores

July 11, 2009

The Shores Resort & Spa is just a few miles south of Daytona Beach, Fla., but it might as well be half a world away, at least tonight.

This is the quiet time of year — months removed from the Daytona 500, Bike Week, and a certain event that begins with an “s”.

The Shores is the only four-diamond resort among all of Daytona’s beach hotels, with all the over-the-top amenities you’d expect in a place like Palm Beach or Miami.

If you saw some guy with a tripod and camera strolling up and down the beach after dark tonight — well, that was me. Didn’t mean to scare you.

Nice looking hotel, isn’t it?

    Nice shot. I love after-dark and low-light photography. What tripod are you using? Traveling without a tripod, I’ve learned to improvise, but perhaps it’s time to make an investment in one that’s light enough to manage on trips.

    Thanks, I use a Manfrotto 804RC2, which is a little heavy, but really sturdy. That was a 30-second exposure at f/8.0. ISO 100, focal length 24mm.

    @Lanora

    I use a monopod that doubles as a walking stick, and I love it. I think it’s a great compromise between weight and functionality.

    Nice picture, Chris. Thanks for sharing it and I hope you’re having a nice staty.

    Beautiful shot! I actually stayed there when I was attending *ahem* the Daytona 500…

    GREAT GREAT PLACE!

    I have stayed here twice, and considered having our wedding here. It is definitely like an oasis in Daytona. Actually, during bike week, (at least in October) you wouldn’t know what is going on except for the bikes in the garage and the black T-shirts. It’s still the same great quality and atmosphere and the food is yummy.
