50 travel twitterers you should follow

December 16, 2008

Yesterday I revealed the top 50 travel blogs of 2008. Today, it’s Twitter’s turn.

If you don’t do any microblogging, I highly recommend giving it a try. You can follow me at elliottdotorg. But before I get into this list, a word or two about my methodology. I base this on my own list of followers and Twitter Grader.

Did I miss anyone? Please comment and I’ll be sure to consider them for next year’s list.

How do you read so many tweets? There must be some secret here that I don’t know!

  • http://www.gogalavanting.com Kim@Galavanting

Thanks for including me Elliott, and for the great list. There are several on here I didn’t know about…

  • http://www.quikbook.com Brian Hendricks

We were a little late to the party; we just started Twittering this month. http://www.twitter.com/Quikbook
But we hope to make the 2009 list!

  • http://www.journeysnearandfarblog.com Melody Moser

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the list, there are some new ones here I didn’t know about. I’d like to be considered for future lists — I’m @MelodyMoser, a travel writer based in New Jersey. I blog, tweet and write about travel around the world. http://twitter.com/melodymoser Many Thanks!

  • Rob

Would love to see @resideo on the list – http://twitter.com/resideo/

They’re a “small” OTA that has embraced the space quite effectively, in my opinion. Tweets during the day include hotel news & info (press releases, renovation notices, etc.) as well as special deals & discounts.

They also do a good job of interacting with the community — keeping an eye out for folks asking for help finding hotels.

Definitely kudos to the travelinmamas for inclusion. Would also recommend @hotelexperience

Oh, I feel very honored, thanks x millions for including me in the list among so many great travel Twitters! You just made my day :-)

I’d have included some other travelers, but I see that other commenters have already done that.

I agree about your advice about microblogging, I’ve found many interesting Twitterers and blogs that way.

Plus it’s the best way to get a grip of what’s up right now.

Now I must ensure that I follow everyone in that list, I recognize most of them, but not all of them….

    Happy travels everyone :-)

Rumour has it that I was at 49, but my tweet calling twitter ‘ Social crack without the scabs, smell & stealing to support the habit’ tipped me out. Actually that’s a lie, I’m just kicking stones on the ground like a 4 year old because I’ve been left off…
