Commission Hears Attendant Call
The flight attendant's voice was calm and composed, but her telephoned words to the American Airlines operations center were chilling. "The cockpit's not answering," flight attendant Betty Ong said. "Somebody's stabbed in business class, and, um, I think there's Mace that we can't breathe." Ong's 23-minute phone call was played yesterday during a hearing held by the 911 commission. Judge Tosses Cruise Lawsuit

Ford Motor Co. announced that Hertz's 2003 pre-tax profit was $228 million, up from $200 million in 2002. Hertz earned $44 million in the fourth quarter of 2003, up from $27 million in the same period in 2002. The year-over-year improvements reflected strong cost performance and improved leisure demand, partially offset by lower pricing, the company said. Auto Rental News | Posted 6:45 a.m.

• And finally ... when they talked about liquidating, they probably didn't mean this. According to the electronic bulletin boards, A US Airways crewmember was shocked to discover cocktail napkins with the airline logo were showing up at a local bar. Turns out the serviettes were on sale at a discount retailer at a bargain price. What a strange way to go Chapter 7. Posted 6:50 a.m. | Send us your comments.
