Week 2

June 5, 2002

Never too soon to learn to read. More people to see, more things to do. We stopped by the dive shops where Daddy works today and then visited the library to stock up on books and talk with my friends, the librarians. Well, I didn't do much talking; I just slept.

Making the rounds at mile marker 106. We visited Divers Direct, the store where Mommy used to work, and I got to meet lots of people. Here's a picture of me with Adelle at the Swimwear Outlet, which is right next door. Everyone wanted to hold me. Please, folks, take a number.

Meeting the neighbors. Mommy and I made the rounds today on Oceana Drive, meeting all of my new neighbors, while Daddy stayed in his office and argued with one of his problem clients. I think he missed out: he didn't get to see me in this cool hat. And lots of people got to hold me, too. (Here I am with Jazmin, who lives just next door.)

What, you want me to smile? Daddy spent most of the afternoon taking pictures of me instead of working. Gee, hope they don't mind if he misses a couple of deadlines next week. What are you gonna pay the bills with - baby pictures? Now there's an idea. I could always go into show business.

Catching a few 'Z's. Everyone is taking a break today, including me. I slept for three whole hours this afternoon, and so did Mommy. My friends at the Naval Academy band sent me lots of baby gifts. Kim, our postal carrier, delivered them to us yesterday. Mommy and Daddy were very happy to get them, because there were some baby things that they had forgotten to buy.

Thanks for the flowers, Cookie and Carlos. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather in Southern California sent me roses today. Aren't they beautiful? I am too tired to stop and smell them, though. I need to get my 22 hours of beauty rest every day. But I was awake for long enough to post a list of friends and family who send me stuff for my birthday.

WE'RE HOME! My captors released me today, trading me for two other pediatric patients who had defected to the other side. Max, to the left, offers a feline greeting of solidarity, having himself been incarcerated at the vet's a few days earlier.
