Week 1

May 29, 2002

Thank you, Nurse Silvia! We got a visit from Nurse Silvia today. She helped deliver me last week. Told Mommy how close she came to getting a C-section. We're all happy she didn't have to go under the knife - except maybe Daddy, who likes to watch surgeries. No, I'm just kidding. He's happy, too.

What part of 'nap' don't you understand? Mommy wanted to take me for a walk around the hospital today. I wanted to sleep. Guess who won? I feel like a kitten. Oh well, the nurses seem to like me. But I'm still too young to ask them out. Dad says I can't start dating until 2018.

Flying the flag. At this point in my life I don't know the difference between Memorial Day and my birthday, but this one-piece sure looks good on me. I was getting tired of this see-through bassinet so Mom took me for a walk through the ward today.

It's un-bearable! Got the news late last night that I'm going to have to stay in the hospital until Thursday. I need to finish my antibiotics. That's the bad news. The good news is that I've been transferred to pediatrics, which has a much better library.

See you, ICU.
I left intensive care at 11 p.m. yesterday. Been napping a lot today. This guy is letting me use him for a pillow. Hmmm ... he might be useful for other things. Wonder if I can take him home with me?

Paging Mr. Clooney. OK, I admit I flunked my Apgar test on purpose so I could meet George Clooney in the ICU. Here I am catching a little shuteye between feedings. I'll be ready for my close-up soon, Mr. DeMille.

Are you my mother? I think I figured it out: The lady on the left is my mom. I'm feeling much better by now - the fever is gone and all my tests are coming back normal. Still no sign of Clooney. They let me out of intensive care tonight.

Opening act. I was born today at 6:34 p.m. at Baptist Hospital in Miami. I weighed eight pounds and seven ounces. Wow, I'm a big baby. Here's what I looked like about a minute after I was born. Like the hat?

Thursday night fever! I was running a little temperature when I came out, so they sent me to the neonatal intensive care unit for a while. Here's a picture of me about an hour after I was born. Don't I look a much better?
